Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is a scientifically validated personality instrument based on the work of Carl Jung, one of the founding fathers of modern psychology. Over the last 30 years, the MBTI has become the most trusted and widely used psychological assessment in the world.

The MBTI is a useful tool for understanding people by looking at eight personality preferences that everyone uses at different times. These eight preferences are organized into four opposite pairs. When you take the Indicator, the four preferences (one from each pair you identify as being most like you) are combined into what is called a Type.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is available only through Qualified MBTI Practitioners. For more information, contact us.

The four pairs of preferences, or dichotomies, describe four activities:

  • Energizing — how a person is energized, either Extraversion (E) or Introversion (I)
  • Perceiving — how a person takes in information, either Sensing (S) or Intuition (N)
  • Deciding — how a person decides, either Thinking (T) or Feeling (F)
  • Living — a person's orientation to the outside world, either Judging (J) or
    Perceiving (P)

The MBTI can be used to help people:

  • Understand themselves and their own behaviors
  • Appreciate others' differences and contributions
  • Enhance communication between peers, employees, customers and teams
  • Understand differences in management and leadership styles
  • Develop skills in time management and stress management
  • Explore and develop career strengths
  • Improve teamwork and reduce conflict

It is important to remember that the MBTI:

  • Is used to open up possibilities, not limit options
  • Identifies preferences, not skills, abilities, intelligence or performance
  • Assumes that all preferences are equally important, valuable and necessary
  • Is well documented with thousands of scientific studies conducted over many years
